Coming to specs, the Vivo NEX offers a 6.59-inch FHD+ 19.3:9 Super AMOLED display.
A fingerprint scanner that is placed underneath the screen. Talking about the rear cameras, the 12MP + 5MP dual camera setup comes with 1.4μm pixel size, f/1.8 aperture, 4-axis OIS, 6P lens, and Sapphire glass lens.
Vivo Nex and Vivo Nex S are the two smartphones in the Nex series and they come in only one storage variant. Other local manufacturers like Xiaomi and Huawei are also using the in-display fingerprint scanning technology on their latest high-end devices, but we are yet to see it present on a widely-available device, even moreso on one that could be bought in the United States of A. While both the variants come with the same design, only the flagship edition comes with pop-up selfie camera and in-display fingerprint scanner.
There's no beating around the bush, the elevating camera is the Vivo NEX's selling factor. That all-screen design wouldn't have been completely possible if Vivo didn't have the guts to stick the 8 megapixel front camera in a retracting mechanism.
The Vivo Nex also comes with in-display fingerprint reading abilities, which is hardly surprising considering that Vivo released the first phone with a sensor built into the screen only a few months ago. The top-end model with 8GB RAM is priced at 4,998 Yuan, which converts to Rs 52,669, while the mid-range device costs 4,498 Yuan (about Rs 47,400).
Vivo needs a big win with the Nex handsets, in the face of declining shipments and tough competition.
As far as we can tell, the only serious issue with both Nex handsets is availability.
For selfies, there is an 8MP elevating front camera. The cameras on the back also benefit from the AI-capabilities of the device with scene recognition, HDR, filters and photo composition. Users can have Jovi open apps or identify objects on the phone screen, using either voice commands or a dedicated hardware button on the phone's side.
The Vivo NEX has been on the headlines since it was teased at MWC earlier this year.
The OEM said that the device will go up for pre-order tomorrow on June 13 and will be available in offline stores on June 23. The front-facing camera now extends and retracts from the top of the device whenever someone wants to photograph themselves or make video calls. The benchmark listing reveals the smartphone is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 chipset, coupled with 6GB of RAM. The connectivity features available on the Vivo NEX include dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, 2×2 MIMO, Bluetooth 5 LTE, GPS, GLONASS and 3.5mm audio jack.
