Suspect arrested in fatal shooting of XXXTentacion

Police have detained a suspect in the murder of beloved rapper XXXTentacion, and additional arrests may be on the way.

Dedrick Devonshay Williams of Pompano Beach was arrested shortly before 7 p.m. Wednesday after a traffic stop, the Broward Sheriff's Office said in a statement Thursday.

Authorities said XXXTentacion was ambushed by two suspects. He was booked on charges including first degree murder, probation violation for theft of a auto and driving without a valid license.

The Broward County Sheriff's Office posted a mugshot of Williams in a Twitter post Thursday morning announcing the arrest.

His Florida lawyer, David Bogenschutz, told USA TODAY that detectives were considering the possibility XXXTentacion was the victim of a random armed robbery: The rapper was driving a $147,000 vehicle, Bogenschutz said, and a small Louis Vuitton bag he typically carried was missing.

"I've seen him riding them 4-wheelers", Slappy said.

"I want to talk to the person, find out why would you kill him", Jones said.

His brief career was marked by controversy. He was previously charged with aggravated assault with a firearm and domestic battery in 2014 after he allegedly pointed a gun at his girlfriend's head. In Los Angeles on Tuesday night, a vigil attended by around 1,000 devolved into the crowd jumping on a news van and swarming passing cars, according to the Los Angeles Times, before being dispersed by police. His mother bought him clothes, phones and other gifts.

Onfroy's great-grandmother Corine Jones said she learned of her great-grandson's death when she got up to use the bathroom and turned on the television.

A viral video of the late rapper seemingly predicting his own death has been shared across social media in which he says the following.
