On their way back to New Jersey, however, tragedy struck on a DE highway, as a horrific vehicle crash took the lives of five of the six Trinidad family members - including all four daughters.
Police say Mary Rose Ballocanag Trinidad and her husband and the couple's four daughters were traveling northbound on Route 1 when a maroon pickup truck cross the center median into oncoming traffic slamming into the family's Toyota Sienna minivan.
Also in the vehicle were his four daughters, ages 20, 17, and two 13-year-olds, who were not wearing restraints and were pronounced deceased at the scene. His 53-year-old wife, was properly restrained in the front passenger seat and was transported to a local area hospital where she was admitted with serious injuries.
The driver of the pickup truck was treated and released from the hospital.
The driver of the auto, 24-year-old Brian Kern from Bethlehem, Pa., was transported to the hospital where he was treated and released.
Kern said he saw Hubbard's pickup truck serve across the median at Route 1, coming toward him, and he swerved to avoid a head-on crash.
It was not immediately known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash, police said.
The family members were from Teaneck, New Jersey, police say. He opened the auto door and jumped out, said the report.
"I was sitting in the ER and my heart was just pouring out to them when I heard about it", said Kern.
'I see out of my left eye the vehicle crazily swerving out of control on the grass median.
Audi's brother, Daniel Trinidad, told The New York Post that the family was devastated over the sudden loss.
Sources close to the family told Eyewitness News that Audie worked as a postal worker while Mary Rose is a nurse at Mount Sinai Beth Israel.
Devastated relatives gathered Saturday at the family's Teaneck home to process the tragic news.
In tears, he said, "I'm going to miss them so much". "When I found out, I just couldn't believe it at first", said Amber Dow, friend of Danna Trinidad. "They go to church".
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help with medical expenses for Mary Rose Trinidad and funeral arrangements for her family. My brother texted me a picture of the blue crabs they ate on 4th of July. The page has so far garnered more than $125,000 in donations. Their bodies in the morgue are unrecognizable'.
