Lucas Torreira completes €30m move from Sampdoria

Earlier on Tuesday, Arsenal formally announced the £26m signing of Uruguay World Cup star Torreira who joined from Sampdoria.

Arsenal have completed the signing of Matteo Guendouzi after wrapping up a deal for Lucas Torreira.

Torreira - the length of whose contract Arsenal did not reveal - performed well at the World Cup, playing in all their games and impressed national coach Oscar Tabarez enough to gain a place in the starting line-up in the 2-0 quarter-final defeat by France last Friday.

"A midfielder with great quality, I have enjoyed watching his performances for Sampdoria in the past two seasons, and we all saw him do very well for Uruguay in the World Cup".

The summer transfer window is open and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we'll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe.

Sampdoria's midfielder is joining the Gunners for £26m, having undergone a medical yesterday.

'He is a young player already with good experience, but who wants to keep on growing, ' said Emery.

Torreira was snapped in the brand new 2018/19 home kit and will be keen to make his mark on the first team from the start of his Arsenal career.

He will wear the No.11 shirt following Mesut Ozil's recent switch to the No.10 for the forthcoming season, but fans were a little confused by the choice.

His speed should fit in well with Emery's plans to deploy a more aggressive press when Arsenal are without the ball, and his ability to link defence and attack should help fill part of the void left by Santi Cazorla's and Jack Wilshere's departures.

The 22-year-old will add much-needed mobility and steel to Gunners' midfield.
