Gianluigi Buffon: 'Champions League is not an obsession'

The 40 year old Buffon is a five-time recipient of a place in the UEFA Team of the Year and moves to France off his ninth Scudetto, and seventh successive, to join the French league champions going into 18/19 with their sixth Ligue 1 title in seven years.

"But at the beginning of a season, you can't focus on a goal, only mad people do that and we're not mad here".

Now the former Italian worldwide is said to be on the verge of signing a one-year contract at PSG with an option for a second season.

Buffon played alongside former PSG man Blaise Matuidi with Juventus last season and the former Azzurri star admitted that the France worldwide encouraged him to move to Parc des Princes.

Former manager Lippi claims that the veteran shot-stopper should have hung his gloves up as a Juventus player, and although Buffon will continue playing first team football next season, the 70-year-old believes his global career is over.

"I think that, recently, PSG have been very ambitious and showed continued progress. In one month, I will know more about the squad, and I will improve - I was unable to refuse that". I spent 10 years at Parma and 17 at Juventus and created a comfort zone and that doesn't motivate me.

"I've always looked for challenges", he admitted.

"Asked how much longer he can play for, Buffon admitted that he has stopped thinking about it and does not want to ask himself that question, because he feels it puts him in a negative situation". Over two decades later and the 12-time Serie A goalkeeper of the year is now a PSG player.
