Kawhi breaks his silence to thank Spurs

THANK YOU to every one of my teammates I've played with over my seven years in the National Basketball Association.

One part of Leonard's statement includes a thank you to Spurs coach Gregg Popovich, reading "THANK YOU Pop I'll always be grateful for my growth under your guidance".

He also thanked the fans (again). "I'll always remember the city and the people of San Antonio!".

"Through ups and downs - glad there were many more ups!" - I'll never forget what we shared and accomplished together.

"While I'm looking forward to the next chapter in my career", Leonard wrote.

On one side, there was [Kawhi Leonard] that was trying to get out, get to a bigger market, and they were totally being up front with him, and then they trade him for a guy [DeMar DeRozan] where, that organization wasn't being up front with him at all.

DeRozan openly criticized Masai Ujiri, claiming the Raptors president promised he wouldn't trade him. Leonard, who was craving Los Angeles, reportedly was not happy to be shipped out of the country, and his letter did not address the Raptors.

"The best part about San Antonio, they do right by you", Gay said.

In Thursday morning's episode of 'Get Up!' on ESPN, Jay Williams says he's not buying it. Williams believes that Leonard's camp has to do some image fix for their star who was cast as the villain ever since he declined to play for the Spurs despite getting clearance from the medical staff.

However, questions remain about the status of a right leg injury that shelved him for all but nine games last season.

Leonard, 27, had an impressive seven-year run with San Antonio with two All-NBA First Team selections, two Defensive Player of the Year awards and a championship in 2014.
