Why 'Fortnite' bypassing Google Play could be a security nightmare

Why 'Fortnite' bypassing Google Play could be a security nightmare

Internet security experts usually urge mobile phone users to only download apps from official stores like Google Play and Apple's App Store. Unlike most developers who rely on the Google Play Store for distribution of their apps, Epic feels that Fortnite can draw enough interest to allow them to avoid needing a third party distributor. You can toggle these apps on to permanently stay in your app drawer or just add a simple home screen shortcut.

The message that pops up says that "Fortnite Battle Royal by Epic Games, Inc is not available on Google Play". Thankfully, the Play Store is finally doing something about it.

Google isn't very happy about this as they seem to put Fortnite's main competitor PUBG at the top of search results when someone searches for the aforementioned game.

Yes, Google misspelled the name of the game - it's "Royale", not "Royal".

"It's a high cost in a world where game developers' 70 per cent must cover all the cost of developing, operating, and supporting their games", Epic said. The game will appear in the Samsung Game Launcher and in the Galaxy Apps store.

Epic Games and Samsung also provided a list of devices that will be compatible with Fortnite Beta. If the battle royale genre loses steam, it might have trouble getting users to its website to download the game, which requires extra steps and makes updating a pain. Well, the last part is still valid since you can't yet play Fortnite even if you download it on your non-Samsung smartphone unless you've been accepted in the beta.
