Is Emery prepared for Pep Guardiola?

Arsenal start their post-Wenger period with a serious test at home to the Premier League champions, so the Gunners must be up to speed with Unai Emery's tactical approach very quickly.

Manager Pep Guardiola will have Benjamin Mendy available for selection after the full-back missed a large portion of last season with an injury. Ahead of their first showdown on English soil, Emery has welcomed the challenge of getting one over on his compatriot. I know exactly what we did to achieve that and that is where we start from.

Arsenal and Manchester City will meet on Sunday in the Premier League's marquee match of week 1. "We want to give him confidence", stated Emery during his pre-match press conference.

"When we were in Spain each match against Barcelona with Valencia is very exciting and very demanding for me also to prepare for this match".

"We were the best last season, no doubt about it".

"The other players are OK and we are working on the possibility to work with Ainsley, who has experience in this [left-back] position". A win helps to win more.

"I have a lot of respect for his career, starting from the bottom and making an excellent career, winning titles and making his teams hard".

"I have said many times I am not a special guy but I am so good at working, working, working a lot and they have to work too".

City set a host of records - including most points, most wins, most goals and biggest winning margin - as they powered to the Premier League title last term.

Having brought in Riyad Mahrez for a hefty fee, Guardiola was also questioned on how he would fit all of his star players into the same team.

"That's the basic principle". They like and want to play and they know at our club they have to show me the good things every day.

"We can do our job the same as last season but maybe Liverpool or United, Arsenal, Chelsea or Tottenham can do much better and they win".

Arsenal fans are delighted with the addition of Lucas Torreira, who performed incredibly well for Uruguay in the 2018 FIFA World Cup. "No way", said Guardiola.

"Forget about Liverpool's spending, because of course they have spent a lot, but last season they were a top team as well".

'There is Chelsea with Jorginho, Kovacic and Kante in the middle, and Hazard, Willian, Pedro and Morata up front, so you cannot say they are not contenders. Some like Kevin de Bruyne and John Stones had excellent tournaments but others like Gabriel Jesus struggled.
