Nintendo sets a start date for Switch online service

After the maintenance is complete, Nintendo Switch Online memberships will be available for purchase.

As previous reports indicated, the Nintendo Direct presentation has been rescheduled for tomorrow. Switch owners will be able to take advantage of a 7-day free trial as well.

The much anticipated online gaming service for the popular Nintendo Switch has a start date: September 18. Personally I'd rather see that time devoted exclusive to games, and indulge a separate Direct for Nintendo Switch Online alone, but I am looking forward to finally learning more about the service.

Nintendo has been drip-feeding details about the service for months, starting with confirmation that subscribers will have access to classic NES games with additional modern features such as online play and voice chat. 3, Donkey Kong, Ice Climber, and The Legend of Zelda. I'd also recommend the cloud saves for those of you with massive completionist save files (looking at you, Breath of the Wild), so you don't have to worry about them being lost for some reason.

As announced before, the Switch Online service will cost $29.95 for 12 months, $11.95 for three months and $5.95 for a month-on-month subscription.
