President Weah plays friendly for Liberia

It had been 16 years since Weah's last global football appearance and months after his presidential inauguration.

Weah enjoyed a career in Europe spanning almost a decade and a half that saw him play for Monaco, Paris Saint-Germain and Marseille in France, AC Milan in Italy and English sides Manchester City and Chelsea.

Once one of the most feared strikers in world football, George Weah hung up his boots 15 years ago.

"(Namely) that (Weah's) date of birth is correct and the fact that we don't have complete information of all players and all their dates of birth over the years".

The not serious friendly which ended 2-1 in favour of the Eagles saw Weah played for 79 minutes and also retired his number 14 jersey that he wore in his football days. I looked up to the likes of Stephen Keshi, Rashidi Yekini, Friday Ekpo and others and believed that the African footballer can also get to the very top. I believe that in Africa, somewhere, there is another Ballon D'Or victor.

He commending the Federal Government, Nigeria Football Federation and the Super Eagles for the honour done to him on the occasion which was to celebrate his contributions to Liberian football.

Former Paris Saint-Germain and Marseille star Weah is not expected to continue his global career beyond this match.

Nigeria took a 2-0 lead through Henry Onyekuru and Simon Nwankwo before a late penalty from Kpah Sherman proved to be a mere consolation for Liberia.
