Most German economists forecast a slight reduction in the country's big foreign surplus over the medium term, because of strengthening domestic investment and rising imports. The March seasonally adjusted trade surplus narrowed to EUR19.6 billion after imports rose faster than exports. Analysts had expected a 0.2% rise.
