Instagram Announces 600 Million Monthly Active Users Following Slew Of New Features

The Facebook-owned photo and video sharing app Instagram has surpassed 600 million monthly active users. Facebook claimed 1.18 billion daily active users worldwide as of September. Over the past month, Instagram launched several features that are very similar to Snapchat's offerings, including a "Stories" function as well as the ability to send disappearing private messages to friends through what it calls Instagram Direct.
