This won't be a long-term buy out, as Beauchemin only had one year remaining on the three-year contract. He was selected in the third round of the 1998 NHL Draft by the Montreal Canadiens. During his time in Colorado Beauchemin played in 163 games during his two seasons there. Before coming to Colorado Beauchemin played for the Anaheim Ducks, Toronto Maple Leafs, Columbus Blue Jackets, and the Montreal Canadiens.

UPDATE 5.05pm: Emerging reports suggest 18 people have been killed and 90 wounded in bombings at the funeral of a protester killed in Kabul . The hilly site was littered with bloodied corpses and dismembered limbs, local television footage showed, with one witness telling AFP that "people were blown to pieces" due to the impact of the blasts.
