LA offers Bat-signal tribute to "Batman" star Adam West

He died on Friday at age 88 following a battle with leukemia. Hundreds of fans thronged downtown Los Angeles, some dressed in comic character costume, to witness the event and pay respects to the 88-year-old actor who earned a place in American pop culture history with his campy portrayal of the title character in the classic 1960's TV series " Batman ".

West passed away earlier this week after a battle with leukemia. The Bat-signal was used in the show when the fictitious Gotham City Police Department needed to summon the superhero. Burt Ward, who played Robin on the show, called the actor a "family man". "He loved humanity and he loved his fans", actor Ward said at the tribute.
