Dry, windy conditions feed wildfires across the Southeast

A state of emergency is now in effect for 25 counties in Western North Carolina, including Watauga and Avery, as dry conditions have helped fuel 20 separate wildfires burning across the western part of the state. No arrests have been reported in those fires, but arson arrests have been made in Tennessee and Kentucky. The South Carolina Forestry Commission issued a burning ban Wednesday for Anderson, Greenville, Oconee, Pickens and Spartanburg counties.
