John Glenn blasts off into orbit around Earth

John Glenn , who died Thursday at age 95, was lauded as a hero of the American space program on February 20, 1962, when he became the nation's first astronaut to orbit the earth. Glenn was the first American to orbit the earth in 1962 and became the oldest person to fly in space in 1998. "Oh, and that view is tremendous". Glenn then spent 24 years as a Democrat from OH in the Senate - and made a failed run for president in 1984.
