FBI Investigating St. Cloud Mall Stabbing; Clinton Briefed


According to the Associated Press on Sunday, an Islamic State-run news agency claimed the suspect was a "soldier of the Islamic State," saying the attacker had heeded calls from the extremist group for attacks in countries that are part of a USA -led anti-IS coalition.

An ISIS run-news agency claimed a connection to the attack, calling the man a "soldier of the Islamic State", as NPR's Alison Meuse reports.

An FBI official said that investigators are viewing the attack as a possible act of terrorism.

None of the eight people wounded suffered life-threatening injuries, and all but one had been released from the hospital, St. Cloud Mayor Dave Kleis said.

Police Chief William Blair Anderson said an off-duty officer from another jurisdiction confronted and shot the attacker to death Saturday night in Crossroads Center.

Police revealed the man asked one victim if they were Muslim before stabbing them in the terrifying incident in Minnesota.

Anderson said the motive for the stabbings was unclear and did not call it an act of terrorism.

And late Saturday night, 29 people were injured when a pressure cooker was detonated in New York's Chelsea neighborhood.
