CBB Predictions: North Carolina Tar Heels vs. NC State Wolfpack 2/15/17

The attacking mentality on defense carried over to the offensive end of the court, where the Tar Heels (22-5, 10-3 ACC) took the ball to the rim at every opportunity and dominated the offensive glass on the way to converting 10 of their first 13 possessions into points. Smith Jr. puts the team on his back in the closing minutes, Henderson goes off, and NC State gets a late layup to finish off the upset. Pinson finished with 12 points on 6-of-8 shooting. They also remain in first place no matter the result in the Duke-Virginia game Wednesday. This game was never in doubt at any point, except for maybe like the first minute when it's hard to build a decisive lead seeing as how it's the first minute of the game and a minute only lasts one minute. It is unknown if the senior forward will be able to play, as he hasn't been practicing in full since suffering a hamstring injury that kept him out of the Tar Heels' loss at Duke.

College Basketball GameDay picked a big-time matchup for week five of the show, as the crew heads to North Carolina for the 100th episode to preview the ACC matchup between No. 14 Virginia and No. 10 UNC in the Dean Smith Center.

UNC ended up outscoring State 60-22 in the paint and 27-13 on second chance points while the foursome of big men Kennedy Meeks, Luke Maye, Tony Bradley and Hicks - during the seven minutes he was on the floor - combined to torch the Wolfpack for 45 points and 21 rebounds.

Gottfried explained that his bigs weren't able to get the best of their matchups, perimeter shooters missed wide open shots early and the Wolfpack failed to defend off the dribble well.

"I shot the ball bad, so for us to still beat them by [26] and I shot like that, that's what we need", Jackson said. "We certainly didn't do things well, but that's a good team", Gottfried added.

Only once Wednesday did State (14-13, 3-11 ACC) appear as though it would give UNC a serious challenge.

The freshman phenom scored 11 straight points for his team during a two-minute stretch in which he helped cut the Tar Heels lead under double figures.

Berry is averaging 15.0 points, 3.2 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game this season.

And the Wolfpack's spirit was effectively broken. Losing by 20 points in three straight games doesn't really help, either. The over/under total for the game is listed at 168 points.

Make that 27 out of their last 30 for the North Carolina Tar Heels over the NC State Wolfpack. "When everybody's contributing, we're that much better of a team".
