Eastern Conference Finals Guide: Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Boston Celtics

Eastern Conference Finals Guide: Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Boston Celtics

The players from both teams hugged, their new bitter rivalry deferring to mutual respect. They seemingly were where they've been the last two years - out of the playoffs before May 1.

Washington treated its incredible Game 6 win over the Celtics like it deserved a national holiday, as if the Wizards had won something.

For Thomas it serves as the ultimate validation for a team that many felt was unworthy of the conference's top seed. Washington coach Scott Brooks fell to 2-1 coaching in seventh games.

"Everybody gave it their best and it turned out for us tonight", added the 26-year-old Canadian power forward.

The Cavaliers became the first team in the 2017 NBA Playoffs to clinch a spot in the conference finals when they closed out a four-game sweep of the Toronto Raptors in the Eastern Conference Semifinals with a 109-102 win in Game 4 at Air Canada Centre on Sunday, May 7.

The Celtics hit 11 3-pointers for the eighth straight game, leaving them one game shy of matching the all-time streak.

Here are the Stars, Studs and Duds from Boston's 115-105 Game 7 win over Washington.

The two-time All-Star found success on both fronts as Boston used a late third quarter surge to pull away for a 115-105 victory that eliminated the Washington Wizards and just as important, catapulted the Celtics into the Eastern Conference finals where they will face the defending National Basketball Association champion Cleveland Cavaliers.

For the city, the 19-year curse continues.

The Wizards and the Celtics kept the fans on the edge for most of the contest with traded buckets and runs, before the home side came to life.

Off the bench Monday night came this 7-footer, with his long hair tucked into a bunh, who had scored a total of 26 points during his three previous games combined. "We're lucky to move on", Olynyk said.

That's one adjective for it. And the Lakers don't need to be first, but they better not be worse than third. Yes, most of their core is young.

The Celtics are headed to the Eastern Conference Finals, but first, they await their fate in the 2017 NBA Draft Lottery Tuesday night.

But right now, there is disappointment.

Here are some takeaways from the Wizards' 95th and final game of the season. Not here. Not on this night.

As you can see, they have a lot to learn.

Thomas finished with 17 points, six assists, a 3-for-3 mark on 3-point shots and zero turnovers in the second half.

Game 7: Monday, May 29, 8:30 p.m. It was played in spurts.

Led by 7-footer Olynyk, the Celtics got a huge lift from their bench, outscoring their Wizards' counterparts 48-5. It's more indicative of what the two teams are - green and still developing - that they teeter so frequently.

A further 9-2 run at the start of the fourth maintained Boston's cushion and although Beal was able to keep Washington in touch, Olynyk's inspired display proved the difference. Game 7 went according to chaos. The Wizards stormed ahead and finished the half leading 55-53. Otto Porter Jr. had a postseason career-high 20 points on 6-for-10 shooting and a flawless 8/8 from the charity stripe. But then they would fall victim to the final dramatic run of the series, a change of momentum that would end their season.
