Aston Villa name John Terry as their club captain

Terry, a hero at Stamford Bridge and idolised in the "captain, leader, legend" banner, wore the armband for the Villans at Greenhous Meadow.

The 36-year-old Terry succeeds James Chester as captain on the Villains and will be required to spearhead a Premier League promotion push for Steve Bruce's side during the upcoming season.

Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone has returned to Aston Villa for another loan spell. His side lost 2-1 to Shrewsbury.

He had reportedly turned down an offer from Birmingham City to play for Aston.

Terry spent 22 years at Chelsea and captained them from the 2004-05 season, winning five Premier League titles as well as the Champions League and Europa League.

Star highlight of the club, the former England captain was seen signing autographs for fans before entering the stadium and warming up for the game.

With David De Gea and Sergio Romero ahead of him in the pecking order, making the breakthrough at United will be a hard task for Johnstone, while young goalkeeper Joel Pereira, who travelled on the club's pre-season tour of the United States, is also highly rated by Jose Mourinho.
