Richard Shelby: Luther Strange 'right person' to be senator

President Trump made the announcement through his Twitter page Saturday.

The president will make his visit to Alabama just days before the GOP runoff between odd and Judge Roy Moore, the top candidates in last month's Republican primary. WHNT also confirmed the announcement through the unusual for Senate campaign. That's three days before a tightly contested September 26 Republican runoff between odd and Roy Moore, the state's former chief justice.

President Donald Trump endorsed Strange before the primary, tweeting, "Senator Luther Strange has done a great job representing the people of the Great State of Alabama".

U.S. Rep. Mo Brooks, who finished third in Alabama's GOP Senate primary, has announced his support for Roy Moore in the heated runoff with Sen. "He has my complete and total endorsement!"

Brooks declined to endorse either candidate after losing in August.

Moore and unusual will speak in alternating five-minute intervals.

At a Saturday rally in Huntsville, Brooks said he has voted by absentee ballot for Moore.
