Twitter Reacts to Rose McGowan's Account Suspension

One of McGowan's tweets was "flagged" for breaching the platform's terms of service, but the issue remains that Twitter responded immediately to such a flag while other, more inflammatory accounts, are often untouched. The film producer was sacked on Sunday from the Weinstein Company he cofounded.

Twitter has lifted the suspension on Rose McGowan's account, saying that the actress was suspended for posting a private phone number and not for speaking out about Harvey Weinstein and Ben Affleck. McGowan then went to Instagram to summon her "Rose army" to fight the power, claiming "powerful forces" were working against her.

McGowan said late Wednesday that Twitter had suspended her from tweeting after the social media company said she broke its rules.

This is another case that highlight a problem with Twitter's policies - it can often be very hard to determine exactly what has been done to violate them.

McGowan's access to her Twitter account was temporarily suspended amid her vocal statements against Weinstein and the sexual harassment and sexual assault allegations against the movie mogul. Costolo scrambled, ordering teams to delete offending accounts and tweets.

The New York Times last week published an investigation that detailed sexual harassment allegations against Weinstein over three decades up to 2015.

It's not clear what script McGowan is referring to, but in September 2016 she told an audience at a film festival in Brooklyn: "I just sold my show to Amazon, that I wrote and [will direct]". In an on-the-record, on-camera interview, McGowan repeatedly said Weinstein raped her, the sources said.

Weinstein, who was sacked Sunday from The Weinstein Company production house over allegations of sexual harassment and assault dating back decades, has denied sexually assaulting anyone. She reportedly received a settlement of $100,000 from Weinstein over an incident that took place in 1997. "We stand with the fearless women and men who use Twitter to share their stories, and will work hard every day to improve our processes to protect those voices", it added. I was incredibly naive and young and it did not cross my mind that this older, unattractive man would expect me to have any sexual interest in him.
