In August, the Russian foreign minister responded to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's warning that Iran posed a grave military threat to the Jewish state by saying, "We do not have any information that someone is preparing an attack on Israel".
A team of US National Security Council (NSC) officials have arrived in Israel on Tuesday to discuss the new cease fire in southern Syria brokered by the US and Russian Federation, which Israel says is endangering its security.
"We have not discussed in detail with our USA colleagues what is going on in the whole territory of Syria, apart from the fact that we have fixed our and Iranian legitimate presence under an invitation of the legitimate Syrian government".
As an ally of Syrian President Bashar Assad, Moscow finds itself part of an alliance between Damascus and Tehran, the patron of Hezbollah.
Meanwhile, a delegation of the U.S. National Security Council has arrived in Israel for a meeting with Israeli counterparts on Tuesday that will focus on Iran and the situation in southern Syria. Russia, which views Iran as a key player in resolving the crisis in Syria, has repeatedly emphasized the importance of the role that the Islamic Republic plays in the war-torn country.
United States officials are in Israel to discuss security concerns regarding the new ceasefire in Syria.
In recent months Israel has held talks with Moscow, Washington and Amman in an attempt to ensure that the agreement will define the buffer zone some 40 kilometers from the borders of the Jewish State.
Israeli Minister for Regional Cooperation Tzachi Hanegbi said Sunday that the agreement "does not answer Israel's unequivocal demands that there will be no developments that bring Iranian or Hezbollah forces closer to Israel's border with Syria in the north". However, according to Israeli media, the new ceasefire will allow such fighters to entrench themselves in areas located only five kilometers from Israel's frontier.
The source added that the Israeli security body fears that the two great forces haven't shown till now actual acts to drive out Iranians from Syria in general, and the south in particular.
Army Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Gabi Eisenkot reportedly flew to Brussels in secret on Thursday to meet with Gen. Curtiss Scaparrotti, head of the USA army's European Command, and discuss Iranian moves in Syria.
