The self-driving Uber was in autonomous mode at the time of the collison, and there was a vehicle operator behind the wheel, Elcock told FOX10. "We are fully cooperating with local authorities in their investigation of this incident", a company spokeswoman said.

Uber has said it is suspending self-driving vehicle tests in all USA cities after a fatal accident.

"Our hearts go out to the victim's family".

The Uber auto was in self-driving mode when the accident occurred, but had a safety driver at the wheel as is the norm when testing autonomous vehicles. CEO Dara Khosrowshahi tweeted the below statement in the wake of the accident.
