United States allies hit Syria's capital in a joint strike

The United States' "work in Syria is not done", U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley said on Fox News Sunday.

Mr Trump said the military action was a combined operation with the armed forces of the United Kingdom and France.

The strategic aim of the US response, a former senior Defense official familiar with planning for the attack said, was to raise the cost of using weapons prohibited by global treaty and doubts in the minds of Assad's military officers the next time he orders a similar attack. Christiane Amanpour said on CNN after the attack was launched that Russian Federation had stopped President Obama from attacking Syria by agreeing to eliminate its chemical weapons.

"President Trump, along with our allies, organized the right response to Bashar al-Assad's horrific chemical attack".

Washington described its targets as a centre near Damascus for the research, development, production and testing of chemical and biological weapons, a chemical weapons storage site near the city of Homs, and another site near Homs that stored chemical weapons equipment and housed a command post.

On Thursday, after the president made clear he was nearing a decision, Ryan batted down suggestions that Trump should ask Congress to approve a military force authorization, or AUMF.

But Trump is struggling to get support from other countries for his recent threat to impose import tariffs on China and the USA farm lobby is arguing that retaliation by China would hit American agricultural exports.

The administration said previously any response Assad's alleged chemical weapons use would be done in consultation with allies.

"NATO has consistently condemned Syria's continued use of chemical weapons as a clear breach of worldwide norms and agreements".

Loud explosions ripped through Syria's capital early Saturday and the sky turned orange as Syrian air defense units fired surface-to-air missiles in response to joint airstrikes by the United States, France and Britain. He criticized Russian Federation and Iran for backing the Assad regime, saying (quote) "What kind of a nation wants to be associated with the mass murder of innocent men and women and children?"

The gas allegedly used in the Duma attack is chlorine.

A Politico report previous year said the group hoped to spend $100 million on a pro-tax reform and pro-Trump message to elect Republicans in the upcoming midterm races.

The pact includes Mexico and Canada, which are in the process of renegotiating the terms of the North American Free Trade Agreement with the United States.

Other supporters of the president's action included House Majority Whip Steve Scalise and Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn.

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said the 11 nations "fought hard to get the final agreement that we have now before us".

"I want to emphasize that these strikes are directed at the Syrian regime", he said. It authorized use of force against anyone involved in those attacks or related forces, and has been used to justify US military actions since then, including the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. A sarin gas attack a year ago killed more than 80 people in the town of Khan Shaykhun, and two days later Trump authorized launch of dozens of cruise missiles on a Syrian air base. The White House, however, quickly signaled a USA withdrawal is not imminent. But other experts say that more long-term involvement in Syria would require Congressional approval.

Mr Trump's top economic adviser Larry Kudlow said in an interview on Thursday with The New York Times that the request to revisit the deal was somewhat spontaneous.
