The LAPD confiscated approximately $700K in counterfeit makeup in Santee Alley, an L.A. fashion district. Among the counterfeit products were those purported to be by Urban Decay and Kylie Cosmetics, both of which have seen rampant knockoffs.
Los Angeles Police said Saturday that some counterfeit cosmetics were contaminated with human waste. The products look nearly identical to high-quality eyeshadow, lipstick, and mascara but, authorities say, their prices should have raised eyebrows. The agency had received several complaints from people who claimed their skin became irritated after using makeup bought in the area. According to KTLA, the cosmetics seized in the last raid were found to have high levels of bacteria, as well as traces of animal feces and urine. Counterfeit cosmetics, however, do not meet those standards. When their lab tested the contents, they discovered the products were full of shit - figuratively and literally.
