Downed trees and utility poles impacted MA as well, though the severity did not reach the level reported in other northeast regions. A man living near Candlewood Lake was killed when a tree came down right on top of him.

An 11-year-old girl in NY was killed when strong winds sent a tree crashing onto the auto she was unloading with her mother.

There were more than 100 reports of hail in states including Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York and CT, the National Weather Service said.

More rain is headed for the Northeast Wednesday, with moisture this morning stretching from Florida into the mid-Atlantic.

Much of the East will see rain in the next three days. Police in Newburg said the girl and her mother had arrived home and were unloading the auto when strong winds knocked the tree onto the vehicle.

The man, who has not been identified, was killed when a tree fell on the truck in which he was sitting in Danbury's Candlewood Lake area. Rescuers had to cut part of the auto to save the child, but failed.

Rainfall from the storm flooded roads, stranding motorists and train commuters.

There were multiple reports of high water throughout Maryland, especially in Frederick and Montgomery counties, the Maryland State Highway Administration said.

Amtrak and most local commuter railroads in the NY metropolitan area said their services were back to normal on Wednesday.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo declared a state of emergency in several counties in southeast New York and deployed members of the New York National Guard to assist with the recovery.

"New York has once again withstood the fury of Mother Nature and now is the time for the state and our local partners to get communities throughout the Mid-Hudson region up and running again", Cuomo said.
