APNewsNow.Texas and Alabama, which last met in 2010 Rose Bowl, will play each other in 2022 and 2023. The Longhorns will have first hosting duties, with Alabama set to travel to Austin on September 10, 2022. The Longhorns hold a 7-1-1 all-time advantage over the Crimson Tide.
Texas also announced it had canceled a 2023 home game with Central Florida.
The deal with Texas adds to a tough future non-conference schedule which began with the addition of Notre Dame earlier in the spring. Prior to Alabama's scheduled series with Texas and Notre Dame, the Tide had only participated in one during the Saban era, sweeping Penn State in 2010-11.
As a result, UCF ended up with a rare home-and-home series with the Longhorns. The Longhorns will push a home-and-home series with Ohio State from those years back to 2025 and 2026. "It's been almost 100 years since Alabama has visited Austin and over a century since the Longhorns have traveled to Tuscaloosa, so we're looking forward to it". That will be the first true road game in non-conference play for the Crimson Tide since 2011.
The two teams have combined for 20 AP or Coaches national titles, 1,789 all-time victories, 122 consensus All-Americans (54 unanimous), four Heisman winners and 29 College Football Hall of Fame inductees.
The Longhorns have also canceled a potentially-notable game.
The schools first reached a two-for-one agreement that called for UCF to host Texas in 2007 to open what was then called Bright House Networks Stadium.
