TI's lawyer says rapper was wrongfully arrested outside his gated community

According to local news affiliates, the incident occurred around 4 a.m. on Wednesday, when T.I. arrived at his Henry County gated community appearing to be intoxicated and did not have his key to enter the premises.

T.I. says he called out the guard for sleeping on the job and an argument ensued between the two.

The Latest on rapper T.I.'s arrest outside his gated community.

TMZ is now reporting that the security guard who called cops on T.I. wasn't awake ... according to the so called King of the South, who says the guy was sleeping like a baby when he pulled up to the guard shack.

The musician, whose legal name is Clifford Harris Jr., was arrested outside the gated community where he resides. "Tip clearly identified himself and sought entry", his attorney Steve Sadow wrote on Facebook. He claims he did not assault the guard but that the guard "may have been hurt by my words".

Despite the headline-generating bust, Tip didn't spend much time in police custody or have to stand before a judge.

T.I.is one of the biggest names in hip-hop, with multiple platinum-selling albums and singles, production credits and roles in films like "ATL" and "American Gangster". T.I. and his friend began to argue with the guard, who called police and charged the rapper with disorderly conduct and public drunkenness (he has since bonded out of jail). "Simple assault", in Georgia state law, does not require a physical assault to take place, just "reasonable apprehension" of receiving a "violent injury". "The guard refused entry".

A message for the deputy chief at the Henry County police department wasn't immediately returned.

T.I. has since been released. "When the police arrived, they were not interested in hearing Tip's side of the story and wrongfully chose to end the situation by arresting Tip". His friend was arrested on an outstanding warrant, Channel 2 reported.
